PURIM CONNECTION 2023

MISHLOACH MANOT FOR NEW OLIM & REFUGEES IN ISRAEL

On March 6-7, 2023 (14 Adar 5783) we celebrated Purim. For many years the AZM “Purim Connection” program has helped maintain the bond connecting American Jewry with Israel by sending Mishloach Manot to those in need living in Eretz Yisrael.

This year we provided Mishloach Manot packages to recent olim and refugees in Israel from two communities that arrived this year – Ethiopia as well as Ukraine and Russia.

Packages were distributed to Ethiopian Olim in absorption centers – and to olim and refugees from Ukraine and Russia in communities around the country. These particularly include lone soldiers whose families are struggling through the second winter of war in Ukraine. Resettlement in Israeli society for these young people poses many challenges. We helped them celebrate Purim and put a smile on their faces!

Purim gifts were delivered by The Spirit of Israel, an NGO established in 1988 by the Jewish Agency for Israel. Its mission is to strengthen Israeli society by supporting educational and social programs, through the development of charitable giving and engaging the Israeli public in Israel and in the diaspora in social activism. Focusing on Israel’s geographical and social periphery, the Spirit of Israel works with volunteers and donors from the private and business sectors in order to close social gaps and support vulnerable populations.

A single Purim basket costs approximately $18.
