Seeing through the Century: Photographers with Tobi Kahn
What does it mean to be a photographer? Why do photographers take pictures? In this lecture Tobi Kahn will discuss 8 of the most well-known contemporary photographers working today. Each have their own methods and reasons for creating the work they do. Whether they are documenting history, politics, gender, fashion, or the human condition, they all have distinct vocabularies that we’ll investigate together. Some of the photographers we will discover together include: Jeff Wall, Laurie Simmons, Annie Leibovitz, Carrie Mae Weems, Thomas Struth, Cindy Sherman, Andreas Gursky, and Gregory Crewdson.
