The American Zionist Movement (AZM) congratulates Yaakov Hagoel on his overwhelming election today as Chairman of the Executive of the World Zionist Organization (WZO). The vote was held among delegates to the historic 38th World Zionist Congress (WZC) on the final day of its global “virtual” online gathering. AZM has worked closely with Yaakov Hagoel and his staff for many years in his prior role as Deputy and Vice Chairman of the WZO and Head of the WZO Center for Countering Antisemitism. “Yaakov is a most knowledgeable and committed leader who understands the importance of moving Zionism Forward globally. We look forward to continuing our joint efforts in support of the growth of Zionism in America and through AZM’s commitment to standing against Antisemitism, Anti-Zionism and Holocaust Denial”, said AZM’s President, Richard D. Heideman.
AZM also congratulates Yizhar Hess on his widely supported election as Vice Chairman of the WZO Executive and wishes all the best to the many others chosen by the Zionist Congress for leadership roles in WZO and in the National Institutions of Israel following a broad “wall-to-wall” agreement amongst all parties.
AZM expresses our appreciation for the leadership of Avraham Duvdevani, the outgoing Chairman of the WZO Executive, who has been an important partner of AZM, on his selection as the new Chairman of Keren Kayemet LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF).
There was broad, diverse and very active United States participation in the World Zionist Congress and in its committees. AZM looks forward to working with all the leaders, delegates, alternates and organizations that participated in the World Zionist Congress and remains committed to working with all 33 constituent organizations of AZM from across the spectrum of American Jewish and Zionist life, in a spirit of unity and a commitment to respectful dialogue; and looks forward to participating in the in-person “Extraordinary Zionist Congress” which WZO hopes to convene “Next Year in Jerusalem”.
The American Zionist Movement (AZM) is comprised of 33 national Jewish Zionist organizations and works across a broad ideological, political and religious spectrum linking the American Jewish community together in support of Israel, Zionism and the Jewish people. AZM is the U.S. Zionist Federation in the World Zionist Organization.
