Virtual Tour of the Buharian Jews
Join the BZD and tour guide Evgenia Kempinski for a virtual tour of the Buharian Jews. Nicknamed as “people with blue hands.” They were poor and prosecuted by the Muslim authorities. However, this all changed in the 19th century. And as early as the 1890s, a group of Bukhara Jews arrived in Israel, purchased a plot of land not far from the walls of Old Jerusalem, and built the beautiful Bukharian Quarter. Bukhara Jewish culture and traditions are among the most exotic, colorful, and fascinating in the modern Jewish world. We will explore the history of the Jews living in the heart of the Silk Road and learn about the lives of the Bukharian Jewish communities worldwide.
