VFI EDUCATES Live Zoom Tour: Jerusalem – Breaking Out of the Wall with Julia Newman
The year 1860 is unique in Jerusalem’s history. For the first time in 2 millenia, part of the Jewish population of Jerusalem left the security of the mighty walls of the Old City, and moved to “Mishkenot Shaananim”. This first neighborhood outside of the Old City walls became the cornerstone of a small and sacred town which grew into the largest city in modern Israel. We will walk the pretty neighborhoods of Mishkenot Shaananim and Yemin Moshe, and see the Montefiori’s windmill. We descend into the Valley of Hinom – where the Israeli-Jordanian border was until 1967 – towards the Jaffa Gate.
