The Jews of Azerbaijan Virtual Tour
Join the BZD and tour guide Evgenia Kempinski for a virtual tour of the Jews of Azerbaijan. The state bordering Iran with a Muslim majority is one of Israel’s unique and strategically important political and economic partners. Azerbaijan is home to a considerable Jewish population numbering at least 20,000 Jews. When traveling to Azerbaijan, you may find two different Jewish Communities – Ashkenazi Jews and Mountain Jews. They speak different languages, visit various Synagogues, and have diverse histories and traditions. During our tour, we will visit the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, and get acquainted with the Azerbaijan Ashkenazi Jews and the Jewish Village in Quba – a unique settlement where even today, only Jews live. The Jewish Village of Quba is where we still find the traditional life of Mountain Jews.
