“Never Alone” is essentially a modern Zionist manifesto. For starters, it tells one of the most inspiring Zionist stories of our time, the story of Anatoly Shcharansky, whose commitment to Zionism and his people helped him survive the Gulag and make it to freedom in Israel. The book is also a love letter to Israel and the Jewish people, a memoir of what it’s like to go from dictatorship to democracy, from prison into politics, and then from political deal-making into Jewish identity-building.
