100,000 Ballots Cast in Election for American Jews’ Voice in Israel with Three Days Left to Vote

New vote count surpasses totals for previous elections and marks highest participation levels in 20 years

WASHINGTON With only three days remaining in the U.S. election to the 38th World Zionist Congress, over 100,000 votes have been counted so far, the greatest number of ballots cast in a WZC election since 1997.

A record total of 15 slates, comprised of nearly 1,800 candidates, are vying for 152 American seats for the Congress during the election organized and facilitated in the US by the American Zionist Movement (AZM). View the slates here.

“By voting in this election, American Jews are strengthening the bonds of the Jewish people and Israel and participating in an unprecedented surge of interest. We fully expect the vote count to continue its upward momentum as we approach the end of voting on March 11,” said Herbert Block, Executive Director of the American Zionist Movement.

Voting for US representatives to the World Zionist Congress, the international “parliament of the Jewish people,” continues through March 11, primarily online at ZionistElection.org.

This year’s election has also attracted far more candidates and increased their diversity. Since the last election, there is a 64% increase in the number of candidates who identify as women, with one third of all candidates age 35 and under.
