As adopted June 3, 2019 by the National Board of the American Zionist Movement
Whereas, standing up to, and combatting, Antisemitism was a founding principle
of the Zionist movement and has remained so throughout its history; and,
Whereas, Antisemitism is a scourge that has yet to be eradicated from modern
society; and,
Whereas, the American Zionist Movement (AZM), as the Zionist federation in the
United States affiliated with the World Zionist Organization (WZO), works
together with WZO to combat Antisemitism;
Therefore, be it resolved that the AZM declares Antisemitism to be among the
foremost challenges facing the American Jewish community today, and that the
AZM will mobilize its constituent organizations to coalesce in an effort to educate
Americans about Antisemitism and to recognize, identify, call-out and condemn
Antisemitism where ever it appears; and,
Be it further resolved, that the AZM hereby adopts the International Holocaust
Remembrance Alliance 2016 Working Definition of Antisemitism ** and will
publicize it widely among its members and constituent organizations.
** “Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.”
