Join us for a conversation with Jeremy Benstein, Author of Hebrew Roots, Jewish Routes: A Tribal Language in a Global World. Presented by The Council for Hebrew Language and Culture in North America, the Department of Education of the World Zionist Organization, the American Zionist Movement and The Israel Forever Foundation.
Dr. Jeremy Benstein’s new book Hebrew Roots, Jewish Routes presents a compelling case for Hebrew as more than a language of sacred texts or daily conversation; it is a vessel for deep values, a connector within the Jewish community across geographic and temporal differences, and an essential building block of identity. Benstein also introduces “Wordshops,” explorations of Hebrew roots that articulate a Jewish concept, presenting how these roots help express Jewish ideas from traditional texts to contemporary usage, binding the people, its language and history together. Benstein earned a BA in linguistics from Harvard, a MA in Judaic studies from Jerusalem’s Schechter Institute, and a PhD in cultural anthropology from Hebrew University.
