The Helyn B. Reich Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1995 in memory of Helyn B. Reich, wife of founding AZM President Seymour D. Reich. Reich scholarships are awarded each fall and spring to a limited number of American students who have chosen to study at one of several designated Israeli universities or post-college long-term programs in Israel. The scholarship seeks to recognize candidates who have demonstrated academic excellence, pro-Israel activity in their personal lives, and a dedicated commitment to future involvement with the Jewish and Zionist community in the United States.
The American Zionist Movement is pleased to announce the winners of the Fall 2020 Helyn B. Reich Memorial Scholarship. The recipients are accomplished young Americans Zionists dedicated to AZM’s mission, who are thrilled to be spending the next year living and immersing themselves in Israel.
Alex Wineman graduated from the University of Michigan and is attending the Sachlav Top Israel Interns FastTrack Program. She has been very active in the Israeli Startup scene, having previously worked at a start-up in Tel Aviv through the TAMID Fellowship while continuing to serve as Consulting and Fund Analyst for the Tamid Consulting Group. By interning in Israel, Alex says she hopes to “educate myself more on the Zionist movement” and continue “advocacy for Zionism as a way to bridge more ties to the Jewish community in San Francisco.”
Miranda Singer graduated from Clark University and is attending the Yahel Social Change Fellowship Program this fall. She has been very involved in Israel advocacy as an intern for Birthright, and serving in multiple roles at Clark University’s Hillel as both the Treasurer and Hillel Religious Observance Committee Co-Chair. By interning in Israel, Miranda is “determined to help promote the country and advertise that it is a wonderful place to develop a stronger connection to your Judaism.”
Sara Hessdorf graduated from Brandeis University and is attending the Sachlav Top Israel Interns FastTrack Program this fall. Sara has significant previous experience in the Jewish Professional World serving as an Operations Intern for The Jewish Federations of North America and as the Assistant to the Division Head at Ramah Day Camp in Nyack. Sara has said that “I am eager to take the next steps in my life and find meaningful Jewish involvement outside of a school setting.”
